Press Statement on “MGA Leads Malaysian Delegation To World’s Largest Gas Conference”

17th June 2018, Kuala Lumpur – The “Olympics of the global gas industry”, the 27th World Gas Conference (WGC 2018) themed “Fueling the Future”, organised by the International Gas Union (IGU) will be held in Washington DC from 25th to 29th June 2018, gathering over 12,000 influential leaders, policy-makers, financers and innovators from more than 100 countries to raise the voice of natural gas with timely updates on strategic, commercial and technical issues facing the entire gas value chain.

The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), the lead advocate for the nation’s natural gas industry and a member of IGU’s Executive Committee, will be representing Malaysia at WGC 2018, leading a delegation of MGA members and key industry players to exchange information on the significant developments and challenges impacting the global gas industry.

The Malaysian contingent will have a strong presence at WGC 2018 including 14 speakers, with MGA’s Patron and PETRONAS’ President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin delivering a keynote session on “What Next for the Asia Pacific Gas Market?” and MGA’s President, Hazli Sham Kassim speaking at a panel session on “Public Perception: Our Reputation Matters”.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Hazli said, “MGA has always been an active participant in WGC, having had the honour of hosting WGC 2012, the first in Southeast Asia, which is often described as one of the most successful WGCs. MGA looks forward to leading the delegation with our Patron helming a key session on mapping Asian’s future gas demand and the role of natural gas in the energy mix”.

“With a wide array of topics presented by international industry leaders, WGC is the perfect platform for MGA members to discover the latest innovations in the gas sector and explore how we can implement these developments to facilitate the growth of Malaysia’s natural gas industry and further drive socio-economic progress,” he concluded.

As the largest and most high-profile triennial event held over the past 87 years, conducted “by the industry, for the industry”, WGC will this year see representatives from companies such as PETRONAS, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Qatar Petroleum, BP, Total, ConocoPhillips and Shell.

Over 650 distinguished industry leaders will be speaking as part of the WGC 2018 keynote program on diverse topics that are relevant to the global and Malaysian gas industry including; Access to Sustainable Energy in Developing Economies, Role of LNG in Shaping the Natural Gas Landscape, Innovation to Drive the Energy Industry Forward and the Biggest Challenges and Opportunities Facing the Global Gas Industry.

WGC 2018 will also see the unveiling of the latest World LNG Report, providing a comprehensive overview of LNG market developments, emerging issues, new opportunities, upcoming challenges and best practices for the industry to enable the expansion of the LNG sector.
