MGA was an invited speaker at the FMM Energy Efficiency & Conservation 2018: Adapting to Energy Industry Transformation conference which was held at Royale Chulan Damansara, Petaling Jaya on 13th November 2018.

Participants were mostly representatives from FMM members who came:

  1. To receive updates on energy-related regulatory framework and tools to enhance efficiency of energy supply and end-use
  2. To enhance their understanding of tariff determination in an environment of energy price volatility and uncertainty
  3. To gain suppliers’ insights on market competitiveness, green innovation and managing consumers’ expectations
  4. To be empowered to make informed decisions on energy sources and use

MGA was represented by its Vice President, Pn Seah Su-Ying, who presented on “Natural Gas in Malaysia’s Sustainable Energy Future”. She began by asking the audience to imagine what a sustainable energy future would look like. She then proceeded to make the case as to why natural gas has a place in a sustainable energy future. Among others, she stated that:

  1. Gas enhances energy security
  2. Gas and renewables are natural partners
  3. The industrial sector is reaping real benefits from using gas
  4. Gas is environmentally sustainable

Gauging from the questions from the floor after her presentation, there is considerable interest by players in the industrial sector to utilize gas but they were not able to gain access to gas supply due to last mile connectivity issues.
