Malaysian Gas Association is the nation’s lead advocate for the natural gas industry.

The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) was formed on 21st July 1986 by leading global oil and gas companies including PETRONAS, Shell, Esso, BP and Caltex as a non-profit organisation to serve as an effective platform to bring together key industry players to work towards a common vision.

As the nation’s lead advocate for the natural gas industry, MGA play a prominent role in promoting engagement, discourse and dialogue with key stakeholders to develop a vibrant and sustainable gas industry, while fuelling Malaysia’s socio-economic growth.

MGA’s purpose is to facilitate the growth of Malaysia’s natural gas sector by positioning natural gas as a clean and efficient source of energy, to drive demand and increase industry participation.

Over the past three decades, MGA has promoted the advancement of a sustainable Malaysian gas industry through advocacy, communication and education.

The association has 140 corporate members from across the gas value chain including companies involved in:

  • Production and delivery of gas including exploration, production, liquefaction, shipping, regasification, storage, processing, transmission, reticulation, distribution and retailing
  • Large-scale gas consumers such as industry and power generators
  • Support services such as consulting, original equipment manufacturers, engineering, construction, commissioning, maintenance and trading

MGA is a charter member of the International Gas Union (IGU), a worldwide non-profit organisation with more than 130 members representing over 97% of the global gas market. IGU advocates gas as an integral part of a sustainable global energy system, and promotes the political, technical and economic progress of the gas industry.

MGA is proud to have held the presidency of IGU from 2009 to 2012 which culminated in Malaysia hosting the prestigious World Gas Conference (WGC) 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, hailed as the largest gathering of global gas industry professionals. With this forefront representation and leadership role in the highly respected world gas body, MGA has made opportune inroads in the international gas arena.

Ample opportunities and openings are made available to MGA members to broaden their business base and venture internationally by participating in IGU organised events and to contribute their expertise in collaborative projects. This would indeed add value and serve to enhance MGA’s position and competitive advantage domestically, regionally as well as internationally.

The association is also an active member of International Gas Technology Exchange Meeting and Exposition of Western Pacific Region in Asia (GASEX).

GASEX members comprise associations from 15 countries – including from Australia, Brunei, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
