Report: MGA's 32nd Annual General Meeting
21 May 2018
Malaysian Gas Association held its 32nd Annual General meeting (AGM) on 15 May 2018 at Etiqa Twins, Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur. This year’s meeting was attended by more than 80 members from 43 organisations
In his welcome speech, MGA President Hazli Sham Kassim recapped MGA’s two main priorities in 2017 ; enhancing gas advocacy and ensuring value proposition to members. The expansion of working committees from three to five in 2017 has enabled greater focus for MGA, leading to more activities being organised. As a result , in 2017, MGA succeeded in raising its profile and visibility with all key stakeholders. According to him, the policy maker has acknowledged MGA as the gas industry representative and has invited MGA to join national level committees namely Energy Commission’s Panel Perunding Tenaga, and the Gas Price Rationalization Communication Plan Steering Committee led by EPU. He thanked the Council, Working Committees, Members and the Secretariat team for the collective efforts in raising MGA’s visibility and collectively spearhead the gas industry into its next phase of growth.
The meeting approved all items on the agenda of the AGM, including the re-election of 4 Council Members : Zul Nurani (Shell), Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap (GMB), Benjamin Choo (Murphy) and Nan Yusri Nan Rahimy (Deleum) and election of two new Council Members; Seah Suying (Shell) and Datuk Zunaidah Idris (HLIB). Hazli in his closing speech remarked that that he is uncertain of the policy and direction of the gas industry under a new government post general elections. He however reiterated that as the industry representative, MGA remains committed to ensure the planned gas market reforms remain on track, encourage more fuel switching to gas, facilitate growth in gas demand and creating awareness on gas and its benefits to the nation. He also encouraged members to come forward and play active roles in supporting MGA’s advocacy efforts. Members can also play a role by contributing towards the execution of the gas advocacy communications plan.
Hazli also looks forward to the rest of 2018 where MGA will organize networking events, workshops & forums and students outreach . These activities will provide opportunities for members to be directly involved, be it as collaborators, organisors or participants . Most importantly, the events will provide opportunity for members to raise individual branding by being sponsors.
After the AGM proceeding, members stayed on to attend the Industry Tea Talk themed “Digital reshaping the Energy Sector’ For more information on the industry talk, please click here.
In summary, it was a successful meeting and a value proposition survey conducted amongst attendees indicated that the members find value in being members of MGA.
