PANEL SESSION 1: "CLEANER ENERGY TRANSITION THROUGH PRAGMATIC POLICIES
Any energy policy should be ambitious or moon-shot but at the same time be just and pragmatic. In Malaysia, natural gas has been driving its socio-economic growth for decades, bringing in more than RM135 billion annually to the wider economy and employing more than 80,000.
The turn of the century saw growing dominance of coal in power generation. Just recently, an ambitious renewable energy target of 31% by 2025 was set. What should be the considerations when developing policy with clean energy transition in mind? How should the energy policy address indigenous resources such as natural gas?
This panel aims to deliberate on aspects of energy policies enabling clean energy transition that are ambitious but at the same time just and pragmatic

PANEL SESSION 2: "ROLE OF GAS IN LOW CARBON ECONOMY"
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, LNG trade globally is expected to grow this year with higher than expected demand. More LNG exporting and importing terminals are expected to be constructed, making natural gas the preferred fuel due to its cleaner and flexible characteristics. Studies have also shown that gas fired power plants are necessary to expedite the growth of intermittent renewables.
Despite growing demand, international organisations are recommending for an end to exploring new gas fields. Is this realistic when globally demand is actually increasing? Is the important role of gas in clean energy transition not universally recognised?
This panel aims to deliberate on the roles of that gas plays in clean energy transition, how gas can support countries in fulfilling their Paris Agreement commitments and why continued investments on gas projects are important to socio-economic growth.

Dr. Jen Thompson Executive Officer Australian Gas Industry Trust
PANEL SESSION 3: "Full Gas Market Liberalisation: Making it successful"
Since the Gas Supply (Amendment) Act 2016 came into effect on 16 January 2017, the Malaysian gas market has been gradually transitioning itself into a third party access (TPA) market where by January 2022, all piped gas is expected to be traded at market price and on willing-buyer willing-seller basis. Come new year when the gas market is deemed to be fully liberalised, will we be seeing a vibrant gas market with multiple active TPA players? Are consumers benefiting from the competitive offerings? How to make the market transparent?
This panel session aims to delve deeper into the status and challenges faced by TPA players and deliberate how to make gas market liberalisation a success.

panel session 4: “Ensuring a Vibrant & Sustainable Future Gas Industry”
Developing countries are continuously challenged to balance energy trilemma, where energy security and affordability remains high in their priorities. Peer pressure are driving more countries to embrace the commitment of net zero emission (NZE) and invest on accelerating clean alternative energy. How can developing countries address their priorities but still remain on the clean energy transition pathway? Will natural gas still remain relevant in providing future energy access and security?
This panel aim to deliberate the future role of natural gas and how it can support and complement growth of emerging gases such as hydrogen, bio-methane, ammonia, etc.
