On 9th May 2017, Hazli Sham Kassim, President of Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), moderated the Session 5 on Gas – Acceleration Transition, Fulfilling Potential at the 19th Asia Oil & Gas Conference (AOGC 2017) in Kuala Lumpur.

The panelists were;
• Shigeru Muraki – Executive Adviser of Tokyo Gas Co, Ltd,
• Djohardi Angga Kusumah – Director Gas of PT Pertamina (Persero),
• Ieda Gomes – Senior Visiting Fellow and Senior Adviser of Oxford Institute of Energy Studies and FGV Energia

Shigeru Muraki concluded that with the expanding number of the middle income group that holds the buying power, it is a realistic option that there will be an increase in gas demand in maintaining energy supplies for the future. “LNG will remain or increase to control the greenhouse emission control,” he said.

Djohardi Angga Kusumah reiterated the need for the entire industry to work together in order to achieve the future we are envisioning. He said, “By 2025, Indonesia will have a shift from energy mix to gas. However, to achieve this it is imperative that all sectors collaborate and integrate together to arrive at that juncture”.

Ieda Gomes pointed out that although Latin American countries have started using renewable energy and importing gas, she still sees the important role gas plays in powering big cities and the industries. However, she said the challenge is to balance the act between satisfying the users who are asking for lower price, and the producers who are asking for higher price.
