A technical visit trip to Pengerang which is covered visits to Kompleks Hijau Solar, Pengerang Co-Generation Plant and Deepwater Terminal was successfully organized by MGA for its members on 12-13 September 2017. A total of 35 participants from 17 MGA member organizations participated in this visit, led by En. Yusry, Leader of Membership and Social Working Committee. The objective of the technical visit was to expose the members on the technical aspects of leading edge projects as well as to enhance engagement and networking amongst members.

The 1st destination was a solar farm; Gading Kencana Kompleks Hijau Solar located at Ayer Keroh, Melaka. The participants were briefed and were shown videos on the project development and operation by Gading Kencana. The solar farm produces 1MV per 1.5 acre versus an average worldwide best of 1MV per 5 acres. It was a very interesting visit indeed.
The journey continued to Pulai Spring Resort and Spa at Jalan Pontian Lama for a lunch break. The delegation then proceeded to Sand & Sandals Resort & Spa, Desaru Beach for an overnight stay. The day’s event was concluded with a networking dinner at Snuk Thai Restaurant.

The visit continued the next day in the morning to Pengerang Co-Generation Plant (PCP). After a briefing on the project development and operation of the power station by the senior engineer, the participants were taken on a tour of the power plant. The PCP is one of the six associated facilities to be developed within PETRONAS’s Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC). Upon completion, PCP will be able to power the entire PIC by generating 1,220 MW of electricity as well as provide reliable and continuous supply of stream up to 1,480 tonnes per hour for plants within the complex, making it one of the largest and most efficient gas-fired power plants in the country. PCP also hosted a lunch for the MGA delegation at The Hive.

The visit continued in the afternoon to Pengerang Deepwater Terminal by owned by Dialog Group. Upon arrival, the participants were briefed on the project overview and were shown presentation on the development of the Regasification terminal 2. For safety reasons, the visit to RGT2 was unfortunately cancelled, due to ongoing commissioning activities with fear of presence of gas and for safety reasons. After the briefing and presentation, the delegation was taken to viewing of Pengerang Deepwater Terminal Complex from PMOSB.

The delegation arrived at Kuala Lumpur around 11pm after few stops for dinner and break. Feedbacks from the participants were very positive and more of such trips were requested to be organized.
