REPORT: Technical Visit to Pengerang

MGA from 12-14 February 2019 organised an exclusive technical visit for 30 members to the following oil & gas facilities in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia;
- Pengerang Cogeneration plant (PCP), the largest cogeneration complex in Southeast Asia
- Regasification Terminal (RGT), capable of regasifying 3.5 MTPA of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
- Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), capable of storing 21 days of inventory for polymer products
- Marine Operations Center (PMOSB) ; the center controlling marine traffic for the port and shipping lane passing through the area.
The first three facilities are part of PETRONAS Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) that forms part of Johor’s larger Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC). PMOSB belongs to Dialog Berhad.
The tour kicked off on 12 February 2019 with a briefing on MGA Breakfast Talk in conjunction Technical Visit 2019 by Mr Junaidi, Head of Procurement Pengerang to give an insight about RAPID Outlook sharing at MGA office in Kuala Lumpur before departing for the technical visit,
Upon arrival at Pengerang later in the same day, the delegation were given a briefing on the masterplan for the PIPC by the Johor Petroleum Development Corporation (JPDC).
The next two days were spent getting up close and personal with the oil & gas facilities in Pengerang. Strict safety and security procedures are enforced at all times and in all facilities within the PIC.
The delegates were given a very rare opportunity enter a mega-scale oil & gas complex that is in operation and not open to public visit. The delegates also had the opportunity to engage with the management and operation crew in the complex and get a better understanding of the operations and facilities.
In summary, MGA’s technical visit provided a packed but rare learning opportunity for members and exclusive access to an otherwise restricted site.
