MyWiE’s Top Women Leader Interview to Solicit Input on  Challenges  and Supports Required to Enhance Professional Ambitions

One of MyWiE’s (Malaysia Women In Energy) key deliverables  in 2018  was  the best practice recommendation entitled “STRATEGIES & BEST PRACTICES FOR ATTRACTING, DEVELOPING & RETAINING WOMEN IN STEM & ENERGY SECTORS IN MALAYSIA’’.  The report was shared with  YB Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of  Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change  (MESTECC), and   handed  over to CEO/Leaders of Energy companies  at the Forum on Women In Energy (FoWiE2018) on 6 Dec 2018.  The content  was also deliberated at length  through presentation and panel discussions  at the same event.

The  best practice proposal discusses and  provides recommendation on  two main focus areas as  follows :-

  1. How to attract and Increase female participation in technical lines of Energy and related STEM sector  –  by Work Stream 1
  2. How to ensure that women have equal career  opportunities as men and that the workplace is inclusive and conducive for all  – by Work Stream 2

Work Stream 3  on the other  hand focuses  to enhance the visibility of women leaders and  creating platform that supports women leaders and others in  the pipeline.  They  are currently conducting a series of survey/interview involving top  women leaders  in the energy industry. The purpose of the interview  is  to identify women’s ambitions in senior leadership positions, challenges  faced by  them, and the supports  that are already in place / needed to  allow them to continue playing  their role effectively while enhancing  their professional ambitions.  The outcome of the survey will contribute  towards best practice  recommendation /policy proposal   that Work Stream 3  intends to deliver this year.

Between  April to May 2019, there will be a few more series  of   one-on-one /small group  interviews with  top women leaders of the energy industries  to collect  in-depth information & insights   prior  to moving to the next phase ;  data analysis and recommendation
