Malaysian Gas Association Marks 40 Years, Reaffirms Commitment to Malaysia's Energy Future
During the Malaysian Gas Association’s (MGA) 40th Annual General Meeting, President Abdul Aziz Othman discussed the potential for a fully liberalised gas market based on the “willing seller-willing buyer” principle to increase competitiveness and international investment. He noted that while gas for non-power users is already traded on this basis, gas supplied to the power sector remains subject to a RM35 price cap. The association suggested that removing this price cap could encourage greater participation from international gas suppliers and foster a more competitive market. This discussion took place as part of the broader conversation regarding the role of natural gas in Malaysia’s energy transition.
Following these statements, the Malaysian Gas Association garnered media attention, with coverage provided by several national news platforms, including BERNAMA, The Edge, Astro Awani, Nusantara Daily, and Berita Harian. This coverage highlighted the association’s 40th anniversary and its reaffirmed commitment to the nation’s energy future.
