Malaysia Retained 5th Largest Exporter of LNG in the 2022 World LNG Report
Kuala Lumpur, 7 July 2022–The International Gas Union (IGU) on 6th July 2022. has just released its 13th annual World LNG Report2022, the world’s most comprehensive public source of information on key developments and trends in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) market.
The 2022 World LNG Report highlighted how LNG plays a crucial role in security, reliability, and sustainability of energy around the world, especially during the ongoing energy crisis.
The following are few highlights on Malaysia in IGU’s 2022 World LNG Report;
- Asia Pacific remained the largest export region, exporting a total of 131.2 MT in 2021,
- In 2021, Malaysia retained previous year’s position as the 5th largest exporter of LNG, after Australia, Qatar, United State & Russia.
- Total LNG export from Malaysia in 2021was 24.9 Million Tonnes per annum (MTPA), slight increase from 23.9 (MTPA) in 2020.This constitutes about 6.7% of the totalLNG traded globally.
- Malaysia continues to be a technology leader in Floating Liquefied Natural Gas(FLNG) production. In addition to the world’s first FLNG facility to go into operation named PETRONAS Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Satu (PFLNG1)with capacity of 1.2 MTPA, PETRONAS Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Dua (PFLNG2)with capacity of 1.5MTPA came online in 2021. At the end of April 2022, there were only four operational FLNG units globally, The final investment decision (FID)for the third PETRONAS FLNG is expected to be made by end 2023.
