KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: "CONTRIBUTION OF NATURAL GAS TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMY"
14:30 - 16:00
PANEL SESSION 2: "ROLE OF GAS IN LOW CARBON ECONOMY"
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, LNG trade globally is expected to grow this year with higher than expected demand. More LNG exporting and importing terminals are expected to beconstructed, making natural gas the preferred fuel due to its cleaner and flexible characteristics. Studies have also shown that gas fired power plants are necessary to expedite the growth of intermittent renewables.
Despite growing demand, international organisations are recommending for an end to exploring new gas fields. Is this realistic when globally demand is actually increasing? Is the important role of gas in clean energy transition not universally recognised?
This panel aims to deliberate on the roles of that gas plays in clean energy transition, how gas can support countries in fulfilling their Paris Agreement commitments and why continued investments on gas projects are important to socio-economic growth.
