During the panel session, MGA President explained how natural gas can address the immediate challenges on energy trilemma face by developing nations and the role it can play to expedite the clean energy transition.

Important Role of GasIn Clean Energy Transition:

  1. Gas is a critical fuel not only as the most reliable option but also the cleanest source of energy for a pragmatic energy transition towards a low carbon economy.
  2. Gas in the future will play vital role to support and expedite growth of variable renewable energy in the short and medium-term further reduce the overall GHG emission and helping Malaysia to achieve net zero emission target.
  3. With the power sector commanding the largest share, gas demand is expected to increase nearly three-fold from 2021 to 2039.
  4. It is important to balance the energy trilemma with energy access and affordability high in the agenda. The future of clean energy transition in Malaysia should pivot around natural gas, supported by other gases.
